From the desk of Dr. Dalvir Pannu Making of Pharala.net website has been a very fulfilling experience for me personally. Whereas Pharala is very dear to us Pharalwies, it has not been a famous destination for any practical purposes, and has been hidden from the paparazzi. So most of the information required for this website was not available in any text format, be it books, magazines, newspapers or journals. “Copy-paste” from any other sources was not an option. Therefore a large portion of the content is original and was collected by talking to passionate Pharalwies living in Pharala and abroad. The sole purpose of this website is to provide a platform to connect Pharalwi NRIs to their cultural roots as well as encourage citizens of other villages to create websites for the places back home they love. This website has no religious and political affiliations. Pharala is also on Facebook. Click here to join the group. Inspiration Behind Making Pharala.net A large number of patients in my dental practice www.punjabidentist.com are immigrants from all over the world. They immigrated to USA for a better life . They have different cultures and different views of the American life, but everyone has nostalgia about their life in the villages, where they were born and brought up. To put the patients at ease in a dental chair, I do talk to them a lot about their motherland. It doesn’t matter if they are from India, Pakistan, Mexico, Afghanistan, Austria, Iran, Egypt, Nigeria, China, Vietnam, Korea, European countries, or any other nation in the world, they all love to talk about the emotional stories of their childhood. Regardless of their background, they all want to bring the younger generation growing up here in closer contact with their ancestral homelands. It’s not possible to visit motherland very often (though we all wish to), so I thought we should utilize this powerful source of communication technology, called Internet, to help us to get together online. Wouldn’t it be wonderful when the kids who have never seen their grandparents’ home, could see that through the satellite imaging on such sites? And the friends who never contacted each others for decades due to lack of resources, will be able to see what all those buddies are doing now. This site is meant to serve as a prototype to set up more such sites, and the ultimate goal of website for every village in the world will be achieved and we can then truly make this world a Global Village. Genealogy The “Pattian” topic serves as a genealogy source in this site. The pictures in the “Pharala Album” have been provided by many friends and professional photographers from the village. I have made full use of my camera in USA and Canada to collect some of the Pharalwis’ pictures from the family functions and parties. Future Projects on Pharala.net Some future ideas that need a team effort to accomplish are:
Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have encouraged me to make the best use of my time and energy for the said project. If you are living in any part of the world, and you can help with any of the projects listed above, or if you are organizing any Pharala event and would like to include the details to be included on this site, please send an email to pannudds@yahoo.com. |
